As the year comes to an end, I want to thank all of you for coming to visit my blog from the 140 parts of the world represented by the flags above. That's about 100 more places than a year ago today! Every single one of you makes a difference in my life and encourages me to continue on with this project called Gay Persons of Color.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
James

Gaytino in Latin America and the term "Maricón"
Hat tip to Racialicious for directing me to this great little article about certain Latin American attitudes towards homosexuality.
An excerpt:
"Turns out the word Maricón is a pejorative derivative of the name Maria. Historically it was used to describe men who were perceived to be effeminate or have feminine characteristics, like speech, body type, or the high heels they wore."

Desmond Morris on male homosexuality

Question - Does knowing why we are gay alter our self-perceptions or somehow construct our identities in new ways?
